The orchid is one of my favourite flowers. The fabric designs featured here were inspired by the Mountain Lady’s Slipper, a wild orchid that lives in and around the Prince George area. The challenge for this project was to come up with a set of quilting fabrics that would range from light to dark with a variety of different patterns that visually worked well together. The graphic designs were drawn in Illustrator then turned into symbols which were dragged and dropped into the swatches panel. From there, instead of picking a color you would pick the orchid swatch then any shape you drew would fill with orchids. These patterns were then saved as a jpg and uploaded to a fabric manufaturer and printed onto Kona cotton.
